Explore Viet Nam By Cyclo

See Viet Nam from a different angle, by three-wheeled cyclo!

Viet Nam is a country full of wonders and visitors who explore can witness its hidden gems. For a unique perspective,  ICT suggests travellers try and explore Viet Nam by cyclo – an adventure in itself! There is no better way to get up close and personal with the hustle and bustle of Vietnam’s cities.

WHAT IS A CYCLO?

The Cyclo is a three-wheeled bicycle taxi with a double seat at the front. Originally introduced during the French occupation, the cyclo was mainly used as luxury transportation for French people in Vietnam. Cyclo transport was very popular until the early 90s’ as a cyclo could carry two people plus goods. It was relatively cost effective and could negotiate Viet Nam’s narrow streets and alleyways. As people needed to travel further and faster, and motorbikes became widespread, the cyclo became redundant.

VIET NAM BY CYCLO TODAY

These days, people use cyclos mostly for cargo, goods, short transfers and deliveries. It is not uncommon to see cyclos transporting loads of goods, including quite large or unusually shaped objects from long metal poles and bamboo, to household furniture and more – almost anything can go on a cyclo!

THE CYCLO & TOURISM

The cyclo is a unique form of transportation, an iconic image of Viet Nam, and represents the Vietnamese way of life. Touring with cyclo in the city is very interesting for travellers, as the leisurely pace is slow enough to see the sights and take lots of photos and video. Even more importantly, it feels safe in the busy traffic of Ho Chi Minh or Ha Noi and is much better for the environment than motorbikes or taxis. For these reasons, it is now very popular with travellers to explore Viet Nam by cyclo.

EXAMPLE TOUR: HO CHI MINH/CHINATOWN BY CYCLO

For this tour, we visit the best highlights of Ho Chi Minh City’s Chinatown (Cho Lon), the old spice district, bustling markets, historical landmarks, traditional and cultural gems that make up the tapestry of this vibrant city past and present. Hopping on and off the cyclos to explore areas on foot, guests can take in the diverse sights and sound. From the lovely aromas of the spice markets and traditional Chinese medicines centres to the beautiful temples and pagodas, there truly is something for everyone. This family-friendly tour will keep guests entertained and allows them an understanding of China’s significant contribution to the amazing melting-pot that is modern Vietnamese culture.
