Beaches of Phu Quoc

There is always a beautiful beach and great weather to be found in Viet Nam.

With more than 3000 km of stunning coastline and a climate that varies from North to South there are many options.
Phu Quoc

Phu Quoc is Viet Nam’s largest island and is located to the South-West of Viet Nam, off the coast of Cambodia in the Gulf of Thailand. The island has a large area of National Park, some glorious beaches and some lovely smaller islands to visit off the South coast. In late April Viet Nam had a holiday for the Hung Kings’ Day, and ICT’s Matt took the opportunity for a beachside getaway on Phu Quoc.

Starfish Beach

One of the highlights of the trip was the discovery of ‘Starfish Beach’. In the quiet and somewhat isolated North-West of Phu Quoc there is a quiet village of Rach Vem. Not far from here is a lovely beach, home to a few fishing families and plenty of sea life. The warm, shallow provides the perfect environment for the ‘Protoreaster Nodosus’ more commonly known as the ‘horned sea star’ or ‘horned starfish’. Hundreds of these starfish can be seen by walking in the shallow water not far from the beach. They are typically bright orange and red colour with black spots and horns or spikes on top, giving them their name.

Long Beach

Long Beach is a 20km long beach that stretches down the West coast of Phu Quoc and is popular with visitors. This beach is closest to the main town of Duong Dong, and these areas host most of the accommodation on the island. There are many bars, restaurants and resorts along the length of Long beach.

Bai Sao/Sao Beach

Bai Sao/Sao Beach in the island’s South-East is commonly referred to as Phu Quoc’s most beautiful beach. Well known for its pure white sand, palm trees line the shore in this area which usually has calm ocean and is great for swimming, water-sports, or just relaxing.

The islands of Phu Quoc and Con Dao, and Southern coastal cities Nha Trang, Mui Ne and Vung Tau, all have stunning sandy beaches to relax and have fun on. They are always nice to visit, but even more so during the hot and dry weather of dry season. By coincidence, dry season in Southern Viet Nam is the same time as Winter in the UK and Europe! There’s no better time to escape the cold and come and visit the lovely warmth of Southern Viet Nam.
